Anaemia Blood Test

Biomarkers

Our anaemia home blood test will help identify if symptoms such as low energy and fatigue could be due to iron deficiency anaemia or B12/folate deficiency anaemia. It checks 9 biomarkers that’ll help identify or rule out anaemia. The test also checks vitamin D and magnesium levels which can also cause symptoms similar to anaemia. Our doctors will provide advice on any out-of-range results.

What gets tested?

9 Biomarkers:

  • Active B12
  • Corrected Calcium
  • Ferritin
  • Folate (serum)
  • Haemoglobin
  • Magnesium (serum)
  • Red Blood Cell (RBC)
  • Vitamin D (25 OH)
  • White Blood Cell Count (WBC)

Additional biomarkers can be added by personalising this test.

How can an anaemia blood test help?

Our anaemia blood test will help identify if symptoms such as low energy and fatigue could be due to iron deficiency anaemia or B12/folate deficiency anaemia. It checks 9 biomarkers that help identify or rule out anaemia and also checks vitamin D and magnesium levels which can cause similar symptoms.

What is B12 deficiency anaemia?

Vitamin B12 deficiency anaemia or folate deficiency anaemia occurs when there isn’t enough of these B vitamins in the body causing it to produce abnormally large red blood cells that are unable to function properly.

Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body using haemoglobin. Anaemia is usually defined as having low red blood cell count or low haemoglobin levels.

Symptoms include extreme tiredness, lack of energy, pins and needles, sore and red tongue, mouth ulcers, muscle weakness, and psychological problems such as mild depression or anxiety.

What is iron deficiency anaemia?

Iron deficiency anaemia is caused by a lack of iron in the body which leads to a low number of red blood cells. Iron is used by the body to produce red blood cells which carry oxygen around the body. If you have fewer red blood cells than normal, your body will have less oxygen to be used by organs and tissues. Iron deficiency anaemia is the most common type of anaemia.

Measuring levels of ferritin, haemoglobin, and red blood cell count in the blood can help identify or rule out iron deficiency anaemia.
